Launched in 2007, The Collector magazine is the mouthpiece of the monthly Antiques & Collectables Fair at Nelson Mandela Square as well as of the National Antiques & Decorative Arts Faire. The magazine is the only and most definitive publication that services the antique collecting market in South Africa. It is distributed free of charge at the two fairs and is also available on subscription. Copies are also distributed to all antique shops and auction houses countrywide.

- Use the internet to fully research each antique you are considering buying. In particular look to see what similar items sold for.
- An ethical dealer will give you a guarantee that the piece is original and will indicate if the object is not as advertised, is flawed in some way, or a reproduction or a fake so you know exactly what you are buying.
